Shame on professor Brahma Chellaney and shame on The Japan Times for printing his propaganda (Aug. 29)! Since embracing Than Shwe and his gang of war criminals, India has become rich in blood money taken from the people of Burma. Every roti maker and noodle seller in the region knows that the military junta is being fed by China, India and Thailand. How is it that a professor from India does not know this?
Everyone knows that Aung San Suu Kyi is not the problem and must be part of the solution. How can one try to blame and dismiss her and the millions of people in Burma who voted for the National League for Democracy? How can anyone with an ounce of sense try to make the release of John Yettaw (the American who was arrested and sentenced after swimming to the house where Suu Kyi is detained) sound like progress?
Did you not notice the lack of support for his release from the United Nations, the U.S. or any other government, human rights groups or nongovernment organizations? Few cared what happened to him. Engagement with Burma is only constructive for countries like India cashing in on others’ misery.
